Italian doctor finds cure for Parkinson’s Disease in Irish dancing
16th September 2014
http://www.irishcentral.com/news/italian-neurologist-finds-improbable-cure-for-parkinsons-disease-in-irish-dancing-197291231-237768881.html?page=1
Amazingly, he has found a way to connect both his professional life and his love of trad music.
The story begins in June of 2010 in Peppers Pub, a Trad hot spot located in the tiny village of Feakle (population 126), in County Clare. Peppers regularly offers Trad nights where customers can enjoy music, and if so inclined, participate in set dances. On this particular night, Dan Fox (Volpe’s stage name) was playing alongside Charlie Piggot, one of the founding members of De Dannan, and as the band was about to start, the Italian doctor noticed a man with an unsteady gait enter the pub. “Someone with Parkinson’s,” he remembers thinking.
About 20 minutes later the band opened the floor for a set dance, and Volpe was surprised to see the man with Parkinson’s among the dancers. What followed was incredible: the man who walked so unsteadily required no assistance to dance. Indeed, the man went through the moves effortlessly, as if he were a different person. Dr. Volpe was quite puzzled, and asked Charlie about a particular leg movement he noticed. Thus Dr. Volpe learned about the Reel step.
Congratulations Siobhan & Tom!!

Feis Season!
23rd June 2014
It has been a busy couple of months for the Walker/Kick Irish Dancers!
We have well and truly hit the madness of feis season and our dancers have been reaping the rewards of their hard work. A special mention should be made to Grace Kelly – our runner up Australian International Oirechtas Champion, and to our wonderful freestyle team who placed 4th in the inaugural event!
We have also had many champion solo dancers perform at the Gold Coast Feis and our newest recruits at the Crocker Feis.
Adrian has also been enjoying the feis season, by adjudicating fabulous dancers in Melbourne, Mt Isa and Canberra. It seems that it has not only dancing he has been judging, but was a judge for the Isa Cup – Fashions of the Field. Perhaps he inspired some of their contestants with some of the latest feis fashion trends!
Enjoy our collection photos from all of these events (thank you Milton Baar for the AIO images!).
Well done Walker Teams!
6th May 2014
An email that we received at Walker Irish Dance this morning.
“Good Morning
Trust you do not mind but I just wanted to say how fantastic your dancers were on Sunday. You would know this already I realise.
But truly it was an absolute pleasure and joy to watch all groups but those older girls and young lads were something else.
I could have just watched them all afternoon. I love Group dancing and even more so when you have the style and grace of that group.
You must be very proud of their work and yours. You know something was great when you can remember them and it brings a smile to your face.
Thank you for letting us see them.”

Powerful Performance @ Brisbane Powerhouse

The Walker/Kick dancers trained hard at their annual solo workshop at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Dancers focused on their fitness, core strength and technique wtih a variety of experts and coaches! They also had a chance to have a wee bit of fun – thanks to our games led by our Senior Dancers!!! An electrifying buzz of energy was present all day and great team spirit was demonstrated by all. They do it all again next week – for teams! A great lead up to the State Championships.
